    Protection against intellectual property theft

As an Autodesk Data Management partner, we are currently working very hard to spread the gospel about PLM 360.

An objection that comes up often (but not all the time, fortunately) is about the protection of intellectual property and trade secrets that may be hosted by cloud-based applications.

One of the worst-case scenarios involve (it seems far-fetched to me, but it has been raised on more than one occasion), an authorized user from the datacenter (e.g. an administrator who has BOTH drug abuse and gambling problems :smileymad:) successfully extracts confidential data and sends it to a malevolent third party.

Is there any protection in PLM 360 (such as encryption of stored data, on top of HTTPS encryption) to counter such an Apocalyptic scenario?

    Thanks,

I have somewhat the same concerns with intellectual property.  I understand 360 it is a secure site, but does the information that is hosted/processed on the 360 cloud become Autodesk's property in any way.  I have heard that renderings that have been processed using the 360 cloud and been used for promotional Autodesk material without permission.  This all comes into play with clients that require you to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to starting a project for them.  I am concerned that if that confidential project uses 360 that an outside entity, i.e. autodesk, has the ability to use the confidential information without the consent of the project team and expose the client to the world.  Please help me out with any information you can.

    Thanks

So if I am reading this correctly Autodesk can use any information stored on your 360 account without your knowledge/permission? If that is true you would be violating a Non-disclosure Agreement with your client.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

See 2.2 or the Terms of Service

Autodesk 360 Terms of Service (rev. 9/6/2011)

    2.Proprietary Rights

2.1      Your Rights.  As between You and Autodesk, and subject to  Section 2.2 (License by You; Disclosure), You and Your licensors have and will own all right, title, and interest in and to Your Content.

2.2      License by You; Disclosure. Autodesk (or its sublicensees) may exercise the license set forth in this Section only for purposes of providing, maintaining, repairing, protecting, organizing or otherwise administering the Service and Service Site in the ordinary course of Autodesk’s (or its designated third parties’) provision of the Service and improving and modifying the Service, including rights to extract, compile, aggregate, synthesize, use, and otherwise analyze all or any portion of Your Content and information, and to disclose Your Content and information and the results of any such analysis in aggregated form or any other form that does not specifically identify You or the source of Your Content or information. Notwithstanding anything in these Terms to the contrary, You hereby grant Autodesk (or warrant that the licensor of such rights has expressly granted) a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, paid-up, worldwide, sublicensable (through multiple tiers) license to store, display, reproduce, modify, use and transmit Your Content, and further waive “moral” rights or other rights with respect to attribution of authorship or integrity of Your Content that You may have under any applicable law and under any legal theory.  In addition, You acknowledge and agree that Autodesk may disclose Your Content to provide the Service to You (including, without limitation, Your election to share Your Content under Sections 3.3 and 3.4), to comply with any legal obligations or governmental or regulatory body request (including subpoenas or court orders) or as part of a legal proceeding involving Autodesk Parties.

I think its vitally important for us and likely a lot of other companies that this grey area is cleared up. I can see the need for Autodesk to access the information and on occasion manipulate it for technical reasons, but it seems little off that they can use it for whatever they want. I can't imagine that is the actual intent of that wording.

    Yikes!

Are we sure this is not some kind of copy/paste done in error?

I agree, this could be a very important to client supplier relationship and needs to be addressed.  How does a thread get moved to an unsolved state?

    Thanks
