Computed Fields & Linking Pick lists

Can you use a computed field to extract the value of a linking picklist field within the same Item?

I have a linking picklist field called Crate and I created and another one called Crate (reporting) with a computed field with the value of CRATE pointing to the ID of the Crate field. But it returns the DMSID value of the Item the pick list points to instead of the dislayed text or the Linked Items descriptor. I know I could easily achieve this with a script, but I want to try and achieve it with a computed field if possible, since the calculation occurs in realtime that way.

cheers

Scott.

Hi Scott,

You can't use Computed Fields with Pick Lists as the value from the Pick List is only stored as a reference to another table in the DB and not as a text string.

A similar question was asked here: Pick list and Google Maps.

Ok cool cheers, so its the same for both Linking Pick Lists and 'User Defined' pick list.

I needed to create a script to run something else on creation, so I just dropped in the line of code to do the job.
