    Switchback with Revit and DWF

In Revit Structure 2012, I've exported to DWF a 3D view of a structural model along with floor plan views for engineers review. The DWF has been opened with Navisworks Manage 2012. Redlines and Tags have been added and the file has been saved as NWF.  In Revit, I've enabled the Navis Switchback add-in. Back in Navis Manage, I open the NWF and select an object that's been redlined, I right click to select SWITCHBACK to view it in REVIT. However, a warning message displays the following:

"SwitchBack is not supported for a file of this type"

I'm assuming the file type is DWF. Is my assumption correct?  Is there a setting in Revit or Navis that I'm not aware of?  If SwitchBack does not function through a DWF that's been saved in a NWF, will this feature be available in the next Navisworks release?

    Cordially,

    Carlos G.

Switchback between Revit and NW only works when an NWC files is generated from Revit, and opened in NW.......you can't open a dwf in NW, save as a nwf and use Switchback........

FYI, Navisworks 2012 now supports DWF and DWFX.

Yes I know NW supports DWF andx.I am saying the Switchback doesn't work the way you describe and the process you went thru.

Oh, I get it...thanks for clarifying.  In the meantime, I'm glad element id numbers display to aid me in finding the object in Revit.

    Hi carlos.gonzalez

Switchback to Revit is not supported through DWF/DWFX files exported from Revit.  You’ll need to use the NWC exporter for this functionality or open the RVT directly (RVT reader is available in Navisworks 2013)

If you would like this functionality for DWF files, I would recommend submitting a request through our customer feedback page:

    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=1109794

The information sent through this page goes directly to our development group for review.

As mentioned, you can have similar functionality through selecting the item in Navisworks, viewing its Element ID value in the properties window, and searching on the Element ID through Manage > Inquiry > Select by ID > Show in Revit.
