    Hello Everyone,

In terms of animation which of Navisworks or 3D Max is better. Can you please put down some reasons?

    Thanks.

It depends on what you want to do. Navisworks tends to be used mostly for creating simple quick animations, such as demonstrating a construction sequence. Whereas 3DS Max would be used for more complex animations and rendering.

You can get great results in both, this for example is a construction sequence in Navisworks

This is a great article about creating smooth animations you may find useful.

    To make it simple:

if the technical contents is more important than the good looks of the animation,

If you need to measure, see if something fits, see if everything is accessable....

and end-users do not bother what color the walls have, as long as they are on the right location...

if you want to deliver a file where end-users can roam around freely...

and where custumers need to command and give feedback on the model

    use NavisWorks

if the look and feel of the animation is more important than technical correctness,

if your end product should be an filme and nothing else

if the materials used must have the exact look in the animiation

    use Max.

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.

If you have a Navisworks file is there anyway to import into 3D Studio Max.

I am asking for another person, so if specifics are needed I can check with him.

    Thank you

depends on the version of navisworks

    Hi Abdul,

Navisworks Freedom does not allow export of models, only viewing of NWD and DWF files.

You will need Navisworks Simulate or Navisworks Manage 2012 to be able to export to FBX. More information can be found here

I have only used timeline simulation feature to make a export movie. but recently i have seen your animated construction autodesk movie on youtube. it is amazing. I liked the animation which you had used in your movie. as an intermediate naisworks manage user, I would like to know how to use this animation tools in your video. so far I have only used timeline simulate in order to create an movie. I am not familiar the animation part in navisworks manage 2012.

I would be grateful to you if you could provide any tutorial or actual movie for your animated construction video on youtube.

I  desperately need your those kinds animation technics for my building construction project.

    thanks

The construction sequencing is amazing - I would like to see it export to 3DS max in order to achieve higher resolution, greenscreening, and photorealism.  The rendering time in Navisworks is painfully long, and doesn't allow for render farm usage either.

We are doing a minute-long sequence in Navisworks and it is taking almost a full week to render.  Our client is seeing it as a waste of time as the animation quality is so poor.
