    AceCAD StruCAD models into Navisworks

    Good Afternoon,

I am having serious issues importing files produced by a steelwork fabricator that is part of our project team.

They have given me .sat, .dxf, .stp and finally .ifc format model exports.

All of the formats except ifc come into navisworks as one single entity - therefore making them pretty useless.

However the ifc comes in as discrete elements, however the properties of those elements are innaccessible other than by using the selection tree to select the 'group' - which is obviously not great on complex models.  I also note the ifc is white, but have read the other post on this forum relating to that.

Is there any way of getting around this problem?  We seem to be struggling to access any of the information that is patently in their model, yet dissapears in transistion to Navis.  What I am after is whether there is a recognised workflow that we should follow, as their (AceCAD) technical support team seem to be suggesting it is a Navis issue, and directed me here!

Any help would be appreciated, I have now lost a day trying to resolve this issue.

    Many thanks.

If you change the selection resolution to First Object or First Unique, are you able to select the correct level in the selection tree to have properties display? You can change the selection resolution by clicking on the Select & Search panel to slide it out in the home tab.

You can also cycle through the selection resolution by holding down the SHIFT key while selecting the same item in the navigation window multiple times.

    Best regards,

    Hi,

I have tried again to change the selection resolution (having already tried this prior to posting), yet it makes no difference.  No matter what the resolution is set to, it is impossible to select the elements from within the model and get to the branch of the tree where the properties are embedded.

I'm out of ideas!  Thanks for trying.

Can your steel subcontractor export to DGN ? I've had the best results with DGN: Smaller file size (of NWC and NWD) than IFC, and still some propterties about the bea m dimensions are availabe.
