Hi Group
Is it possible to select a group of parts in an assembly and then see the weight of just these parts or the centre of gravity of the selected group?

Hi
do not know if there are more ways...but if you create a subassembly only to inspect the weight and COG i do not think badly.
Then you only just have to convert this new assemblie in phantom to be ignored bu the BOM/parts list.
In the browser under Representations, create a new Level of Detail and activate it. Suppress all of the parts not of interest. When you go to the iProperties of the assembly and select the Physical tab, the program will prompt you about whether you want properties for the current Level of Detail or the whole assembly. If memory serves, select "No" to get properties of the new Level of Detail. (Read the message carefully. I could have it backwards.) The properties should come back for the unsupressed parts, as assembled.
Hi thanks for your replies, graemev that works (I think the result is correct!). Thanks
Now is it possible to select some parts and then invert the selection so all the other are selected instead so I can group suppress the ones I want?
Regards Adrian
The workflow I use in that situation is to make all parts hidden and then select the ones that I want visible. Hope that helps.
Hi safiredesignengineers,
There is an Invert Selection filter in the selection dropdown.
I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Hi Curtis
Well that works!!
This is one of the hang ups I have in many areas with inventor! The controls aren't always logical! And they seem scattered across the platform.
I have been using the right hand mouse button - selection - but that command is not there!
why is there two different selection options?
Thanks for your help Regards Adrian
Hi Curtis or anyone that can help
I have now been able to select items in an assembly and get weight and COG details, however I guess the COG will be working from the world datum as the xyz data is very wrong?
how do i set the world datum to a known point on one of the parts in the current view so that I can get the COG to relate to a position within the part that I set the datum to?
