    split edge for radius

I would like to radius the edge of a block for about 1" along a 3" edge. In Solid-doesn't-Works I would select an eddge to radius and then would edit it pulling one end of the line to radius back to the desired length of the radius. Here I find no option to edit the edge, I have also tried splitting the edge but I can't seem to make that feature work. Is there a way to do this short of creating a work plane at one end of the edge and then creating a cut to a set depth?

    Thank you

Can also with Multi Body modeling. I know that is not the ideal tool. Better than nothing.

Splitting the edge is a good way to accomplish this.  But you also have to expand the Fillet dialog box (>>) and turn off the Automatic Edge Chain so it won't automatically string all tangent edges together.

Sorry, i selected accept rather than reply.

I have two questions. I have attempted to split the edge but the split tool  wants to split the face. Is this the correct procedure, or is there a way to split just the edge?

Second. When I looked at the drop down for the radisus the button for turning off the automatic edge chain was grayed out. does this only come active if the edge is split?

    Thank you

    1. Right, you can only split faces or solids, not edges.

    2. I'm guessing that you have an edge selected when you see this.  I believe that it's only active when you have nothing selected.  Easy to accomplish, though-- hold the Ctrl key down and pick the already selected edge(s) to deselect everything, then you should be able to change the automatic edge chain option.
