open part or assembly from window or browser

using IV2012
within the same project file i have three models. one model i can open parts or assemblies from the browser or right click on the component on the window. the other two models upon the right click or selecting in the browser the open or the edit are not available as an operation. can anyont tell me why

Might have something to do with having two copies of Inventor running? This is definitely not recommended, but I don't know if that has anything to do with your problem or not. Inventor thinks that opening or editing that component is trouble for some reason (may not be a valid reason, though!).
If you close out of Inventor (both copies!), then open the assembly again, does it work? Can other users open and edit as expected?
