monochrome.ctb

Does the "monochrome.ctb" file not apply to inventor objects? I'm having difficulties trying to print an Inventor dwg in the color black only using Autocad. Do the entities in the dwg have to be "by layer" or they will not print black using the "monochrome.ctb" style?

Inventor uses RGB values for colors, and plot style tables are based on
"Indexed color" or the 255 predefined color palette entries. So even though
an Inventor object may appear "Red", its actually RGB=(255,0,0), not "Color
1". Therefore it can't be mapped by the plot style table.

What you need to do is to edit the layer colors in AutoCAD to the Index
color value you want. Inventor will not overwrite the index color value on
the layer on a save as long as the RGB value of the index color matches the
RGB of the Inventor layer color. It a good idea to do this in a .dwg
template and use this to create your Inventor drawings.

Once the layer colors are Index color, your plot style tables should work,
however this only applied to "ByLayer" colors, if you assign color values in
Inventor that are not by layer, they won't be mapped when you plot in
AutoCAD.

So basically what your saying is if I have entities that are not "by layer" in the Inventor dwg then there is no possibility of them printing in black?

Based on my knowledge of AutoCAD, yes. I'll check with the plot guy on the
AutoCAD team and get back to you if he has any other suggestions.

Here are two ways to get monchrome output for Inventor drawing files.

1. In AutoCAD, File | Page Setup Manager | Modify, Click on Properties next
to the printer name. On the Device and Document Settings tab, select the
"Custom Properties" line and click the Custom Properties button below. See
if your printer supports a black and white mode.

2. CONVERTCTB, select monochrome.ctb, save it as monochrome.stb (or use a
new name). You now have a named plot style file, you only need to do this
once. For each Inventor drawing you open, CONVERTPSTYLES, OK, select the stb
file from the previous step. Now go to Page Setup and select the .stb file.
You will now print in monochrome. This change is persistent, you can
roundtrip the drawing in Inventor and the changes should stay in effect on
the AutoCAD side. If you add new layers you may need to set the plot style
to Style_1 if it does not happen automatically.

Sorry to resurrect this but this is the only place I've found any reference to the below info (quoted from above):

"What you need to do is to edit the layer colors in AutoCAD to the Index color value you want. It seems this is no longer true with Inventor 2021.

It seems to now always overwrite layer colours with RGB True Colour, replacing the Colour Index (except for white).

I went back and checked with 2020 and it preserves colour index.

So now .ctbs don't work with 2021.

Does anyone know how to fix this on my end or if it will be fixed?
