importing a pattern into autocad and inventor

Hi, I like to scroll saw alot.  I am wanting to import a pattern into Inventor and put the model together in Inventor.  Would I need to import the pattern into Autocad first? if so, what format? Can inventor or autocad recognize the pattern easily? or will I have to trace it with a bunch of lines?

What is the source of your pattern?  What is the format? Post example file or url.

well, here is a sample of something similar, that I want to import.  My actual project consist of several pieces, which I will hopefully assemble in inventor.  I can scan the files in as jpeg or pdf

So all you have is bitmap images.
A lot of manual work ahead - basically you recreate via lines and arcs using the art for reference.
Fortunately there is a lot of symmetry that can be patterned/mirrored.

No easy button solution.

is there any other kind of image file that would make the process easier?

and it is possbile to import a 2011 autocad file to 2011 inventor right? if so, how? or is there a good source to look at online for a tutorial?

Q1. Yes.

Q2. http://au.autodesk.com/?nd=class&session_id=3056

How good or bad it is, I'll leave up to you.  Basically it boils down to setting Options to Import.
I would rather have a tooth pulled than use AutoCAD as my sketcher for this.

o ok lol...thank you for replying again.  Is there an easier program for doing this? or are you suggesting that I just manually trace the lines and arcs?

This might help (if you can see youtube):

one thing I would suggest that is not shown in the linked video is to start the sketch, then rightclick and pick Constraint Options, then clear all of the constraints other than Coincident. Just don't forget to turn them back on once done tracing.
