I found a step file of a pump which i would like to attempt to model.Looks straightforward except for the bottom section. It is a learning exercise.

What are the tools needed to model the bottom section.Thrown the Step file and a couple of directional photos of what i would like to model.

How should i start this and i will post back progress

Similar parts have been posted here before.

I recommend that you start with the more difficult features (Loft) and leave the easy stuff for last.

Give it a try and post your progress here.

This is my attempt. Not exactly any easy shape to create.(for me anyway)

Please how can i improve this shape and i will post in my next attempt.

eg..is this best done using surfaces.I thought about using the coil tool to make the shape slightly wind up.Do not know how to best use the coil tool yet but i think it maybe give a better shape.

Why did you create 3D Sketch1 (it is a duplicate of the 2d Sketch1)?

Point taken.I removed it and yes it was not required. What else is not correct or better what is required to improve the model

what are the next steps to get

    a. the smaller end to merge with the larger section

    b. Honestly do not know but the coil could give a more accurate shape like the attached step file.I need some guidance here as i don`t know how to get that shape looking right

I attached my attempt so far

Similar problems (including a tutorial) have been posted here in the past.   What reference urls are you using?

This is not a trivial problem, it could be that the volunteers here don't have time to find the relevant tutorials for you or walk you through the process step-by-step.

    Dane,

The late, great Dennis Jeffrey (RIP) wrote a tutorial on volute modelling.

Here is the link to the Autodesk student site where the tutorial lives:

    Hope that helps.
