Weird text issues with DWF files from INV 2011

We've run into this sporatically in our database of drawings where the text (we use Arial font) in some areas of the text block in an IDW or INV DWG file gets corrupt or something. It's like weird or wingding font lol.

Please see attached screenshot file for an example. All of the text in the text block is made with the same Airal font so I have no idea why some areas are showing issues and other areas look fine.

The problem only gets found when the manufacturing floor calls us to let us know. We never see the issue unless we look at the DWF in Vault Professsional. If you open the drawing everything is fine so I have no idea what's going on and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Regards,

Kenny

Would it be possible for you to post a sample file so that we may look at it and get a better idea of the possible cause?

Thanks,

Hmmm, it would take a while to either find one in Vault that has the text issues or wait until someone in the plant notifies me of a drawing that shows the issue. The actual DWG or IDW themselves will physically look/operate fine in the text box. It's just the DWF gets squirrelly with the translation or something. I'll try and browse thru Vault today to see if I can find a file. This is an extremely low instance that this issue arises but it's a pain when it does. I'm just wondering if its some sort of legitimate bug in the DWF creator or what.

Kenny

Does the affected text include iProperties or parameters, or is all of it just static?  Could they include some specialized characters that aren't universally available on the computers creating or displaying the files?

Truly guessing here.

It's just standard static text. The only characters we use are the ones by default in Inventor. The server Vault is on has all of the same fonts our local work machines do.

OK I found an example file in our Vault databse that has the text issue. I'll attach the DWF file.

Here is the IDW. Just skip when you get prompted to resolve the link when it looks for the model file.

I'm not sure what it is showing on your end but on my end we've always experienced that Inventor does not show the font used when selecting all of the text. The font dialog box will appear blank and you can select from the drop-down what font you plan to use. The font will change like it is supposed to but when I go back to select all of the font again, the dialog box will appear blank again. It's sort of like it is seeing multiple types of fonts being used even though I have changed all the text to the same font, in this case Arial which is built off our template settings.

What is the text showing on your end?

Thanks for the input,

Kenny

On this end, when I highlighted all of line 1 and changed it to Arial, then did the same for line 2, and went back to line1,.... I saw Arial on line 1.  Suggest making that change ( however weird it may seem) and making a dwf to check the results?  When you have eliminated the logical, whatever is left, however improbable... must be the truth.  Smiley Wink

Yes if I highlight just a sentence it will show Arial font. But it doesn't help me in figuring out why the DWF translator seems to have an issue with it.

By defaul a new text box will always be in Arial font as it what our template is built to. I am trying to figure out why the DWF file created from that drawing acts like it doesn't recognize this standard font all of the time. What baffles me is why it decided notes 1 & 2 to mess up but not note 3 even though the entire text box is the same font.

Any ideas?

Kenny

If I edit the text, I see no font selected for lines "NOTES", 1& 2. I'm merely placing the cursor at the beginning and at random points in those lines.

My bet would be that those lines were copied and pasted from Word. We all know how squirrelly that works.

Do a selection of that text again and select Arial. Exit and save the IDW. On reopen, all the text is now arial.

Then do Save Copy As DWFX. It is now fixed.

Moral of the story is "When Copying and pasting text, always verify the font.

Now, can anyone tell me how to copy and paste in an Arial based Word file to prevent the "paste" from coming up Times Roman????  Smiley Mad

No, we are not copying and pasting from Word. We are typing in the text box manually inside of Inventor IDW or DWG files.

I'm having the exact same issue here. There are 3 of us using Vault Professional and a number of  people are using the online thin client. It's the online thin client where the issues are here and the files opened in the professional software are completely fine. The drawings that have errors are the dimensions displayed vertically and the dimensions that are horizontal are fine.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

@scott.mainwaring

Please share an example of what you are seeing.  A sample file or a screenshot.   What version of Inventor and Vault are you using?  Are all graphics drivers up to date, and are all fonts installed the same on all users' machines?
