    VIEW PARAMETERS IN DRWG

I am attempting to curcumvent Inventor's inabillity to use balloon numbers from an assembly BOM on individual parts in the drawing.. What I am doing is placing the assembly and BOM on the first sheet and then on later sheets i place and dimension the individual components. As I create the views I turn on the view label that lists the view# and scale. Now what I would like to do is replace the view name with the part number. I thought replacing <view> with <part number> would work as "part number" is a parameter associated with each component, but that is not working. Does anyone know the correct syntax? I have attached an immage showing that I am getting. You will also see in the immage that when I pulled views off the front sheet and placed them on a new sheet I get update error symbols. I have tried updating and saving but can not correct these errors. How do I fix these?

    Thank you

    Jim

This doesn't technically rename the view, but this is how I achieve the same effect:

Open the view label in the text editor

Place your cursor on the line with the <View> entry

Add the Part Number property from the drop-down menus

    Delete the <View> entry

It appears that you just typed in the property. The type of property and which property has to be assigned from the editor. You can do this per view or by setting up a standard in the styles editor.

Thank you that is exactly what I am looking to do! The view needs to be linked rather than just dumb texted incase the BOM changes. How do you get the property to stick? I change the TYPE field to model propertys and then select PART NUMBER from the drop down but I can't get it to do anything. I have tried highlighting <view> before selecting Part Number and several different things, but nothing works and thus I just get <part number> when I select done. Then when I go back to the edit menu the fields are blank again.

If you're still actually typing " <Part Number>, then that's your problem.  Pick Part Number as you described from the list, then there's a button at the far right of the dialog box that looks like an "x" with a down arrow (marked "3" in MCBUS's posted image).  Click that to insert the property.

Actually typing in <property name> only works in property expressions, not in drawing text.

Thank you guys. The x with the down arrow was exactly what I was missing. I couldn't get the parameter to appear without it. This should solve my problem of nonparametric drawings. Does anyone have any idea on getting the drawing to regenerate and remove the error icons in the picture I attached?

    Thank you
