    Unfold problem.

    Inventor 2010 sp3

I have this piece in the sheet metal environment.  It should be an even .375".  I cannot get it to unfold.  I have tried remodeling it with a straight path and an elliptical curve with the same result.

Your part is not modeled correctly for a sheet metal part.

Um...could you be more specific?  I thought the restriction was an even thickness that can be unfolded.  Id the loft what is causing the issue?

I can visualize some of the steps, but not quite all.  Fire away...

I am curious how this part fits with the mating parts since Loft actually results in some rather undefined edges.  Before I spend time presenting a solution I would like to confirm that it is the correct solution.  Can you attach the mating parts here or supply more information on the assembly design intent.

    Good morning,

Sorry for the delay.  The part was sent to me from a client.  It is a portion of a water gateway that starts as an oblong in the horizontal and ends in 90 degrees offset to one side as a circle in the vertical.  I do not have the whole model, just this piece, but I can request it for tomorrow as the company isn't working today.  I would greatly benefit from your wisdom as to how to approach breaking the parent object down into unfoldable plates.

    Thank you JD.

    Hi Grim,

Here is some ideas for you. The model is not exactly the same as yours but. Id would help to see the picture where the part goes.

    Regards,

    Igor.
