Hi All,
I'm after some advice on which is the best way to model the attached drawing. I've tried using a sweep along a guide but can't get the desired result!
Does anyone have any ideas (or example) thay might like to share?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Regards,
Rob K

Attach the ipt file here of your attempt.
Search here on wavy washer. (this problem has been covered here many times in the past.

Many thanks for your reply. I have looked up the wave washer discussion and I can now complete the model I was looking at.

Just saw this this, so I thought I would give it a try. (Using the sweep)
See attached.

Hi rhasell,
Thanks for your feedback. I like the way you have constructed the part. One more silly question! I understand the construction but how have you actually put the 3D curve in there (what commands)?
I'll have a play around to see if I can get there by myself but if you'd wanna share then that would be great.
Thanks for your help.

Rob K

Looks like a spline created in 3D sketch.
I might have simply done a 3D intersection - no extra workplanes required.
3 2d sketches rather than 4
see attached.

or a solution with only 2 2d sketches rather than 4.

Hi
Create the base sketch with req OD of 25mm with 2 points top and bottom.
Created a point for a workplane @ 20mm radius.
Created the workplane at above point.
Create sketch on workplane, create 2 points, left and right.
Create 3D sketch, create a spline between the 4 points, changed the spline fit method to "Minimum energy"
Create the sweep profile sketch.
Sweep the part.
I had a look ad JD methods, all good, just different ways of doing it.

The 3D curve is different.

Thats what I love about Inventor as well as the forums, there is often more than one way to model a part, and when more than one person contributes, that's how we learn (Or at least I have) the different aspects and features of the software.
I did not even consider a 3d intersection, and will store that in the memory banks for future use.
