    Scaling a Gear Pattern

Hi, I am new to this forum, and am a student at Iowa State University. I have a project due this friday, I am trying to redesign the basic analog clock by using this geneva-wheel assembly, where the small drive would have a second hand attached to it, and the large gear would be the minute hand, I can get the rest from there. But I have this assembly from a previous project, and I want to know if there is anyway I can make the large gear have 60 slots in it (60 minutes in an hour). Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    Mike

2010 Educational Version, but you should still be able to open it. Is it not working?

I'm currently running 2011 which you would not be able to open.

Hmm, is there any way to save it as a previous version? I would think that Autodesk would include the capability to share parts between versions...

Not possible in Inventor, Solidworks, Catia, Solid Edge, Unigraphics or
any other feature based modeler. Unless someone else can help, you will
have to wait until I'm running IV2010.

the Inventor forum includes topics from many versions of Inventor. It's
just common for people to post which version they are using when
creating a post here (OK, they should be posting the version but most of
the time omit that info) so that if/when someone downloads another
persons Inventor files they are not wasting their time just to discover
they do not have the same or newer versions of Inventor.

We are still on 2009 for example, I will not be able to open your files.

The only way you can share files with older versions of Inventor (as
well as other solid modeling programs) are to post stp or iges file
types for example - only problem is the history will be gone.

Edit the sketch of the gear/wheel and use the sketch dims to "scale" the original feature, then edit the pattern to change the number of slots. (see attached)

Or study the way this part was created and just create your own from scratch. I'd probably start with a circle, extrude it, then add a slot cut, then add other features, then pattern them, etc.

Post back with questions, and files if you get stuck
