What is the correct procedure for renaming a part that occurs in more
than one assembly? If I bring the part up in DA, I can a "Find Files" to
see where the part is used, but RMB on "action" won't let me "rename"

are all the assemblies subs of a main assembly if so just open the main assembly to rename when you do the one it will do the rest in the main assembly

No, not all of the assemblies are subs of a main. So, I guess I have to
DA each top level assembly? But once I rename it in one, it's going to
screw up the others.

are they all differnt projects just maped to the libary?
or all in same project?

I thought this was impossible to do as well till someone in this group
showed me the light. The first thing is to select ANY one of the assemblies
containing the part. Expand the list and highlight the part itself. Rename
the part and leave it highlighted. Next, use the lower search to look for
any linked .idw, .iam, and .ipn files connected to the part. In the Action
column under each associated file select UPDATE. This will change the name
of the part in all the other assemblies, drawings and presentations it's
used in.

To me, it seems that the way this should be done is to open design assistant
on the part first, change the name, and then have it automatically update
the name change to all associated files. I wonder if Adesk has a reason why
it's not done this way.

They are all in the same project.

I imagine I don't do a save after the first part is renamed, but wait
until all associated files have the part renamed? Or does it matter?

I've been watching this subject because I would really like to know how to
do this as well. Here's my problem so far. I can pull up an assembly in
DA. I click the Manage icon and I see my parts in the tree. I highlight
the part I want to change, but I can't figure out how to rename it or do
anything with it. RMB does nothing. What am I missing?

RMB in the action column. Then RMB on the file name.
