    Post a copy of your file or atleast a screen shot. Also the version of inventor you are using.

    I'd strongly recommend using 2D sketches to control 3D sketches and/or points.  Much more robust and much easier to control and adjust for design changes.

    Imagine that you were doing a 2D drawing back on the drawing board or in AutoCAD.

     

    sketch what that 2D drawing would look like from the top view (in a 2D sketch).

    Exit sketch.

     

    Now go to the front view, start a new sketch and sketch what that 2D drawing would look like from the front view (in a 2D sketch).

     

    (an alternative would be top and right side view or front and right side view - whichever two views would be easiest to create on the drawing board)

     

    Attach the file here. (forget your 3D sketch for now).
