Autodesk Inventor

Started having some odd behavior in Inventor 2012 yesterday.

I can open an existing file (ipt or iam) and in the upper menu bar the Design Doctor (red cross) and the Update button are highlighted. However neither button responds when clicked. Also the X (close file) in the corner of the view window does not respond.

Edited to add: I have verified that there are no errors in the files that would cause the Design Doc to be highlighted.

On top of this I have had Inventor crash multiple times since this started.

The service pack SP2 has not yet been installed on this machine.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Other than the standard checks:

System re-boot.

Check your system for any changes/updates: Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>View Installed Updates 

Check your system for any errors/issues with the Event Viewer: Start>Control Panel>Adminstrative Tools>Event Viewer

I would also install SP2, SP's were developed and released to fix problems
