Low budget graphics card options

My boss recently ordered me a new workstation primarily intended to run IV7 at resonable speeds. He just handed the local computer shop a printout of the preferred inventor system requirements and asked that they put in a video card suited towards 3D CAD applications. They built me a P4 2.8GHz, 1GBram with an ATI Radeon 8500 All-in-Wonder 128MB graphics card.
I've since learned that ATI Radeon cards aren't well supported in IV, and so far while testing some files, it seems IV will lock up, usually while rotating assemblies forcing me to reset the computer (can an incompatible graphics card cause this to happen)?
I just talked to the shop and asked which NVidia cards they have available. They don't have any Quadro cards, so I was thinking of going with a GeForce4 and using 'Softquadro4'. If I go this route, which GeForce4 Ti4x00 will work best? They have Ti4200, Ti4800, and Ti4600 priced in this order, all are 128MB DDR. They also have the newer FX5900, but I'm not sure how compatible this card is.
Unfortunately, I'm limited to what the shop carries since we can't get a refund for the ATI card, only an exchange or upgrade. A slightly outdated list of what this shop carries is here <> . The prices are in Canadian $ and our budget is under $500. Thanks for any advice.

From those cards I would get the ASUS V9480TVD G4 TI4800SE.
The SE cards with 8x AGP can be a little tricky to work with SQ4, but it
will work after some fiddling. The problem is that is will be reported as a
GF, not Quadro, even in IV.
But it will WORK as a quadro anyway! I tried this with the 4200SE a while
back.
SoftQuadroFX is supposed to come soon, but no-one knows when, so if you
need a solution NOW, go for the GF4.

So is the card you suggested better than "MSI 8900 Geforce4 Ti-4800-VTD8X 128MB DDR,VIVO,DVI, DUAL VGA" (near the bottom of the list). I assume it is better to get a non-SE card if possible? Also, is the G4 Ti-4800 better than the higher priced G4 Ti-4600? Thanks again, I'll likely be picking up the new card tomorrow.

The MSI is similar to the Asus. Same design, same quality, same chip, same
drivers.
My personal preferences are Gainward and Abit because of exceptional
quality and quite silent fans. But I'm sure both the Asus and the MSI are
fine as well.
Only SE cards have AGP8X.
I do not think it will be easy to get the old non-SE cards anymore.
A pity, since 8X is only a gimmick on this generation cards cards.
But you SHOULD get SQ4 to work anyway.
The 4800 work on a slightly higher frequency than the 4600. No other
differences (I think).
but the 4600 should be able to overclock (with rivatuner) ALMOST as high as
the 4800.
If I should pick, I'd get a card with two DVI-outputs. You'll need this if
youre going to use two LCD's in the future.
If you do not use LCD yet, be sure that the DVI->VGA adapters are
included..
Good luck, and search the rivatuner forum at http://www.guru3d.com/ closely
if you have trouble getting the SQ4 to work. There are some posts with
similar troubles/solutions there.

I would ask the shop to add the Nvidia Quadro 4 380
XGL to their line for under $200 US. It does the job of 3D Open GL graphics and
is supported by the vendor for this purpose.
