Im struggling coming up with a loft or sweep to get the design effect I need. Please see on the pic how the profile terminates to a point. Any help or advice would be appreciated

I am a beginner myself, and I am sure someone will come along and give you proper advice, but I'll give it a bash later on.

I'll try a 3d sketch intersect to create the lifted bit, and maybe use split to try to loft bit by bit around that tight corner.

Create your round end first, most likely a Revolve to form the end Button. Then create your Sweep from this. You should be able to copy the outer edge of the Button onto the sketch for the profile of the Sweep

Just a real quick 5 minute attempt, but you can get some ideas from it.
