I wouldn't mind trying to build a virtual lego assembly. Maybe a weekend project of some sort.

Thanks guys, just to add to the list:

just search lego. I downloaded all of the lego gears / axles that I needed. Just be careful, the search bar is very precise and doesn't appear to have a "closest results" feature. I entered "lego gears" the first time around, and there were 0 results. I then typed "lego gear," and the gears came up.
