Any good ideas on how to show a good representation (quick and easy) of a knockout on a thin steel part?

How frequently is this an issue for you?

What sorts of knock-outs do you typically encounter?

    1. Model the knock-out.
    2. Include a center mark in the sketch.
    3. Include an alternative sketch if the knock-out is complicated.
    4. Create a Punch iFeature
    5. Convert to a table-driven family of iFeatures (if you'll use a lot and
knock-out lends itself to being parameter driven)

With the Punch saved, you can now use in your folded models and subsequently
decide if you want to see:

    a) the punch
    b) the center point only or
    c) the alternative sketch

    in your flat pattern.

In the attached ZIP file, I have placed a simple R2009 sheet metal part onto
which I have placed several instances of the included iFeature. The iFeature
contains a table with three size variations. The iFeature places a hole in
the sheet, uses the same sketch to create the "still attached" blank (which
has had a radius applied to the back).

On placement, I used a single sketch to define the placement centers.

I deselected the centers that I didn't want on the first placement (then
    shared the sketch).

I then reapplied using different diameters.

You can make your version as complicated as you want.

The flat pattern was then set such that the punch was shown using the center
    marks only.

If you had a really complicated punch, you could create an alternative
sketch to represent the simplification that you wanted to show on your flat
pattern and include it with your sheet metal punch iFeature.
