    Is Autodesk right for me?

I had a technical question. I'm a product designer for Orthopedic braces, in the fabrics/textile industry. Autodesk designer is mostly for designing metal products, correct? I've used it a bit, and made some very nice looking professional drawings with the trial, was considering purchasing the full version, but I am wondering if it is right for my company. Is this program ideal for merging, stretching, bending drawn products? Can I assemble fabric type objects in assembly, the same as sheet metal, or would there be a better drawing program out there, specifically for textile and fabrics? This program is very wonderful, and I am definately leaning toward the purchase, just wanting to know if anyone could point me in the right direction, or if this would be the optimal program to use. Thank you.

As long as you can treat the fabric as if it were
rigid, there should be no problem.  If you will want to create pattern
drawings for the fabric parts with hem allowances you may have to get a little
creative.  The other operations you described are no problem.

I'd do some additional investigation before taking the plunge. I don't
consider IV / MDT to be especially well suited for modeling soft organic
shapes compared to some other software on the market. If you haven't modeled
objects specific to your needs and gone through your entire design cycle, try
it or try to have someone that's proficient with the software (reseller?) in
question demonstrate it for you. As a prelim, visit the various software
vendors' web site galleries and see what's on display.

    Good luck with it,
    Jeff
