I have an assembly created with inventor, but I want to create a SIMPLE injection mold for it with just a few fasteners on the inside. I'm very new to inventor and the mold design tools make a very complex mold I cannot 3D print. Is there a way to make a very simple mold using mold design or is there a way to use the derive commands to make the 2 piece mold? Thanks.

Attach your file here.
The mold design tools can be used to make the most simple mold possible.
You could also use the Derive command - but that is going to do exactly the same thing with more work.
Did you even get the mold design tools to work?

No, I never got it to work, but I want to determine if I even need it (I'm going to try with inventor 2012 later on) for basic molds. Here is the file...

You can easily create this within a single part file or with a Derived Component.
You do not have draft and some are your sketches are not constrained.
You have not used obvious symmetry about the origin planes (which would take less work).
I tried to post attachment - but my internet connection has been very slow all day.

Are you still there?
Here is how I might model the part and mold (note: only really need one side as they are symmetrical).
I did not include draft on part for removal from mold. (see attached ipt file) You would then go to Manage tab>Make Components to push out the mold halves and individual part.
Note that you also had a gap.

Thanks so much for your help. Could you briefly list the steps you took to create the mold using the derive command? Also, how might I be able to add extruding and indenting pegs that can fasten the 2 mold parts?

Method 1 (see attached zip)
Method 2 (see attached zip)
Both of these options are on the Manage tab.
