    Curious... what the heck?

Crashes on a simple extrusion... VERY basic spline...

(When I click extrude... I doubt it's even a complete closed shape yet)

    any thoughts?

Set additional lines to construction lines, and it's ok.

Just took a look back through your previous posts here.
I don't see any improvement in your sketching techniques.
I recommed you read this document.

by this point you have probably developed bad habits that will be hard to break.

Find the Origin Center Point and use it.

Use Construction lines where appropriate (this was pointed out to you on an earlier problem).

When using the dataset to extrude it, there is no crash seen. Maybe there are some key steps I missed. So could make more comments about the steps or workflow?

Note that iProperties indicates the file is r2010 apparently with no Service Packs installed.
