Inventor 2013 - iCopy Problem - Orientation

HI All,

We are trying to design a tube that can be extended using icopy around a floor level using line end points in our sketch.

As you can see in the attached file the blue rails work correctly as they are offset inbound of the floor surface. The red rails however when inserted using the same points are offset in the oposite direction. We think it is due to the work planes we are using/the axis we have created the parts on.

Does anyone have any ideas of how we can overcome this so all rails are offset correctly using only one iCopy file.

Let me know asap please as we are currently stuck on this.

Thanks,

Jon

hi jhough12,

it is very hard to control the direction if you want to define it with lines and points.

Just a thought to make it easier: Use planes for the definitions.

If you define planes you can switch the direction (constraint) while placing your iCopy.

I would suggest to define it in this way to make it easier for the user:

1. select the floor plane

2. select the wall plane

--> now the user can switch between the orientations with the constraint icon

3. select the first point

4. select the second point.

Now you are able to control the direction and that would be a possible result:

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Dennis Thanks for your reply. We are unable to select planes when selecting points for the iCopy definition, it only allows points and lines (as far as we can tell). Can you please confirm how this is possible?
