    Inventor 2013 Problems

    Hi All,

I have just installed 2013 Premium Suite to test before the company rolls it out to the other employees.

I know that it's still early days with 2013 and that there is bound to be glitches but I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing these same problems.

1.) Dimensions don't automatically update in sketch mode- by this I mean if I create a dimension and make it a formula say d4=d1/2.  If I change the value of d1, d4 doesn't update unless I click to edit it.

2.) Projected edges doesn't stay linked to user defined plane - If I project a user defined plane in a part sketch and dimension from this projected edge, when the plane moves, the projected edge doesn't move with it.

3.) If I am away from my computer for a while, it will automatically lock.  When I return to the computer and unlock it, The model window disappears, showing only my desktop wall paper.

    On your point 1).

I am wondering if you have the "Immediate Update" checkbox at the bottom of teh Parameters dialog turned off by any chance?

I cannot reproduce item 2) on my machine. Do you have a file you could send us?

    Bob

    1. see the reply by bobvdd

    2. This seems to be the way that 2013 is working now. I have had multiple planes disassociate themselves when moving other related planes in my parts. I don't know if this behaviour is intended or not, but it sure is annoying.

    3. This is most likely a Windows issue when the screen is locked. If at all possible, remove the locking from Windows. The problem is well documented and many people have complained about similar occurences with other programs as well.

If you need to keep the lock, then I would suggest you head over to the Microsoft Answers forum.

Thanks for this replies, I've not been able to get on forum for past few weeks, hence my late response.  The first two issues appear to have corrected themselves but the third issue still persists.

Trumpy81, It seems strange that if this was a windows issue, why it didn't occur when I was running Inventor 2010, 2011, & 2012.

As I said, this problem has been reported many times, not just Inventor, but with many other programs also. Unfortunately, I've only actually encountered this problem once and the solution in that case was to simply prevent Windows from locking the computer, which made me happy, and my customer, so all was good :smileyhappy:

I did do some research on the problem at the time, but I'm afraid whatever I learned has long been forgotten, hence my suggestion to head over to Microsoft Answers.

Clearly, when you installed 2013, something changed, I have no idea what, but it is obviously affecting you now.
