Friday Pics 4-7-06

Thought I would give it a try in Inventor. My model came out a little differently. ;~) Message was edited by: Discussion Admin

2 computers, 2 3D motion controllers eh JD....hmmmmmm...I am feeling a
little bit of a "staged shot" here. You don't really need all those
staplers now do you?

And don't forget the MicroScribe. I wonder how many of us have one of
those sitting around on our desks??? Nice "toys" JD .... the model
looks nice too by the way. 😉

I couldn't post the 11meg DWF.
I'll leave it here until IT complains.
http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/stapler assembly - jd mather.dwf
31 sheets, the 3D is on sheet 3 (zoom all). Need DWF Viewer 6.5 and watch out that Composer doesn't steal focus. DWF lighting isn't very good.

>2 computers

I've cut back from 3, but I've got my eye on an addition.

Here is the corrected link...

JD, you have to replace all spaces with %20 for urls.

Nice models.

All you need now is a 40" monitor like mine.

JD,

I would really like to find some info and pricing on that MicroScribe you have there.
We are starting to have to design assembly machines with out product drawing from Japan on the parts and this might be a solution for us.
Could you forward me any info?

Thanks

I didn't use it for this stapler model. Frankly, I don't think I would purchase a Microscribe. I think you would be better off going with a non-contact laser scanner.

I used a MicroScribe quite a bit in conjuction with Inventor. There was a standalone app you could run that would work with the Precise Input toolbar (in 2D - this was Inventor 6 we were using at the time) to put points down on a sketch and then create profiles from there.

It worked OK, but depending on the accuracy you need you've got to be extremely careful how you use it. There was a 3rd party vendor that had some software that would allow you to capture points in 3D using workpoints, but it was about $6k at the time, and didn't seem to do terribly much aside from capture points.

The envelope is pretty limited too - unless you're going to do really small parts, you've got to have some accurate fixturing method, which drives the cost up even more unless you already have some stuff sitting around.
