Frame generator + level of representation (LOR) + BOM

Hello Everybody,

I have a frame generated assembly. I created some levels of representation (LOR)

which involved adding some new and removing some frame generated components.

The BOM material which I want is of the respective LOR.

I am using filter as LOR during my BOM.I am aware that does not change

my qty column in BOM.

But is there a way by which  I can connect my LOR to the BOM?

As of now according to my understanding the BOM is taking Master/default LOR for

generating the part list. Can I make my BOM extract data from my LOR ?

P.S. I was sucusseful in creating a BOM from frame generator with help of following thread.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Inventor-2010-Frame-Generator-custom-part-numbers/m-...

Thanks

A new acronym is born: LOR. We normally refer to it as LOD (Level of Detail) Smiley Happy

I must disappoint you: you are trying to use LOD for something that it was not designed for. In fact you are trying to make multiple configurations from the same design and have the BOM reflect each configuration.

To accomplish multiple configurations,  use iAssemblies rather than LOD.

The best use for LOD is to reduce the memory footprint of a large assembly, not for configurations.

Using iAssemblies with Frame Generator assemblies is a bit tricky and I would advise to only attempt this when your design is near the finish phase. In order to use iAssemblies on a FG assembly you will have to break the adaptivity with the skeleton part because it involves using a promote operation.

Look at attached video. It explains the process step by step and you will see  at the end of the video that modifications are no longer adaptive but the good news is that you will get the BOM configurations you were looking for.
In the video I demonstrate how to remove two reinforcement beams from the frame and from the BOM.

Sorry for the lousy screen resolution but the maximum file size that the newsgroup allows is 1.5 Mb, so I had to scale it down.

Cheers.

Please accept my apology for new name. 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Please can you repost the

video For some reason its not playing.

By the way I tried using the iassembly part but, yes it was

giving problems with the skeleton. I will like to know the way by which

I can break link between skeleton and FG model.

Thanks for your time.

Yes I compressed it in Flash format which is not read by Windows Media Player.
You can read the file with the free VLC viewer for instance.

But even better. I created this new post on the Inventor blog with a full size video you can watch without downloading extra codecs or extra video players.

on similar lines--

After promoting the frame generator assembly. Do the

frame generated member still have link with the content center or

do they break link with content center.

Thanks
