Yo!
Just curious why, when I create a plane, I cannot 'flip normal'? There is nothing in the RMB click for it...and I am not sure why. Still there in part...just not assembly. Was it ever?
Alternatively, when I create a plane, is there a way to create with the normal in a direction of my choosing? Never tried to figure this one out cause I always had flip normal...
tks!!

I checked in Inventor 2010, and the Flip Normal feature appears to function uniformly with the behavoir in Inventor 2013. You'll note there are also constraints in the model browser under plane work features in assemblies and there are none in parts.
Can I ask what you are accomplishing with the Flip Normal command? Maybe there is a different path to arrive at the same destination.....
Thanks,

Honestly, its been 10 days and I have forgotten what project I was working on while having this issue.
I did resolve it, as I recall, but not with flip normal, just by creating the plane in a different makeup and getting my 'normal' to be the correct way from the start.
Thanks for the response tho, sorry I dont recall what it was. ![]()

Nathan,
I am having this same issue. I have created a sub-assembly in which one of my parts was flipped ipside down. I resolved this by changing to a flush constraint.
Now as I place the sub-assembly in a new assembly the same part flips upside down again. I cannot figure out how to resolve it because the flush constraint solution does not work. Others have advised to flip normal by pointing/right-clicking the work plane. But, I do not find the flip option at all.

This sounds like a constraint selection issue.
Try changing Mate/Mate-Flush.
Can you attach the assembly here?
There might be a better workflow.
I don't recall ever using an assembly workplane for anything other than mirror of components.

I am trying to learn how to use Inventor so I could be way out in the weeds with what I am doing. I attached the assembly.

An Inventor assembly file *.iam is little more than a list of hyperlinks to the part *.ipt files and a record of assembly constraints.
Just look at the file size of the *.iam file you attached.
An assembly file is useless without the part files. Attach the entire assembly (this includes the parts of the assembly).
(or at least the parts the exhibit the behavior that prompted this question)

Good. I am reluctant anyway to post design details on a public site. Can I send them to a private account?

Are there any issues in assembly file? Running the Design Doctor should help resolve conflicts in the assembly. Is the part that is "flip-flopping" a natively created Inventor file?
I'll send an e-mail to get the files from you.
