Fitting type removal

When placing an elbow or most pieces from the content center in Inverter 11 Pro they come in as a "fitting. By simply copying and pasting a second right next to the original it becomes a library part rather than a fitting. These are identical except for the type. The advantage being a part can be demoted into a sub assembly though a fitting cannot. Nothing is in a tube and pipe run.

Is there a simple way to change a fitting into a library part without copying and pasting then reestablishing all the mates by hand?

If you want to insert the Tube & Pipe fittings as a normal library part, from menu Tools > Add-Ins > Select the Tube & Pipe Add-in, uncheck the option Load on Startup and restart Inventor.

After that, the fittings will be inserted as normal library parts.

If you want reload the Tube & Pipe Add-in, afterwards, you need to close all the Inventor files and reload it (no need to restart Inventor).

Some notes about the different behaviors.

When you insert the fitting from the CC with the Tube & Pipe Add-in loaded, you can connect it to the route according to the authoring information stored in it.

So it will be automatically added to the subassembly run with the classic T&P icon. That is why you don’t have the option to demote it.

But, if you copy & paste it, or you insert it with the Tube & Pipe Add-in unloaded, you cannot connect it to the route, as if it has no authoring information stored.

So, it behaves as a normal component that can be demoted.

You can see this also without the route.

When you insert the fitting from the CC with the Tube & Pipe Add-in loaded, while you are inserting it, if you right-click, you have the Place fitting option in the contextual menu.

This option is missing if the Tube & Pipe Add-in is unloaded.

I hope you can find this helpful.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

Thank you for the responce it is informative for the future.

Is there a way to either remove authoring information from a fitting already placed or to supress the authoring information. Because if i am understanding this correctly that is the only difference in the programming between the fitting and the part.

The main question is not the fact both can be inserted into a model but can one be  changed into the other after the insertion.

If this cripples the fitting and in this model cannot be added back into a pipe run and it is forever stuck as a part that is fine.

If you want to convert the fitting already inserted to a normal library part you can try the following:

  1. Unload the Tube & Pipe Add-in
  2. Restart Inventor.
  3. Open the assembly.
  4. Select the fitting in the browser > right-click > Replace from Content Center
  5. Select a different family.
  6. Repeat step 4 selecting the previous family and size.

After that, the fitting should display as a normal library part, but if you have applied some assembly constraints to the fitting you may have to reapply some of them again.

I hope you can this useful, anyway.

Kind regards,

Alessandro
