Failing to extract sketch as iFeature

    Hi,

I created the attached parametrized CF Flange iPart (one can change size, bored/blank, tapped/through, fixed/rotatable). I wanted to extract the cross-section sketches as iFeatures, so that I can reuse it also as sketches. I can extract the "Cross Section (Fixed)" sketch as an iFeature, but not "Cross Section (Rotatable)". I created this iPart file about half a year ago, and as far as I remember I created these two sketches in exactly the same way. Can somebody explain why it doesn't work?

    Thank you very much

    Danie

I didn't bother to try to figure out what doesn't work, but -

why isn't the origin at the center of rotation?
why repeat dimensions rather than use equal = constraints?
why sketch both cross-sections of a revolved profile?

don't use projected sketch geometry in these sketches (tie to the origin).

don't use user workplanes - use origin workplanes.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your comments.

"why isn't the origin at the center of rotation? don't use user workplanes - use origin workplanes! don't use projected geometry, tie to the origin"

The answer to these comments is that if I then want to extract anything from this file as an iFeature, which I can place anywhere in another part (the revolved body, or the sketch), it *must not* be constrained to the global coordinate system. This was discussed here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Reference-geometry-other-than-sketch-plane-for-iFeat...

"why repeat dimensions rather than use equal constraints?" - you are right.

The part should be created at the origin.
    Coincident constraints can be deleted.

Maybe I haven't taken a long enough look at this part - why isn't it an iPart rather than an iFeature that you are after?
