Is there a specific reason that you can only export a parts list from a .IDW to a MS Excel 5.0/95 format? Is there a conflict with the newer formats of Excel?

Steve,
What format are you looking for?
I ask because if you are looking for Excel, but it is just the wrong version,
you can save it out then call it up in Excel and resave it out again in a yet different format.

I'm not looking for any specific format but by default Excel wants to save everything in a newer version. Once I open the file and change something, upon closing Excel asks if I want to keep the old format. Not knowing all that much about Excel I was just wondering why Inventor 2013 software only offers to save the file in an older version of Excel.

Don't know why that is. What I can tell you is ever since Office 2007 came out they have had a newer
extention of .xlsx which when trying to paste in emails or bring into other formats it wont be accepted.
But it at least gives you the option to save it to the .xls format.
