    Can driven constraints be applied symmetrically?

    Hi to all readers of this message,

    now that I've installed SP1 for IV6, let me ask my question:

    Can driven constraints be applied symmetrically, or in even more cases?

    See the assembly file in CF under the same topic. It's part of the retract
    gear linkage of an R/C airplane, consisting of two symmetrical
    four-bar-linkages. I want to move both sides on the screen, from the working
    to the retract position, and so on. I can do this with my cursor, by
    gripping the red part on the right, and moving it. The left side is
    following in the same manner, if I'm doing that with caution; sometimes it
    gets disturbed in the end positions.

    But I can't do the same task by use of driven constraints, there's a no-go.
    - Go to the adaptive Zyl-D10-H25:1
    - Expand Zyl D10-H25-Teil1:1
    - Suppress the constraint "Passend" (=Mate)
    - Unsuppress the constraint "Driven Stroke"
    - Try to use the drive by constraints function for "Driven Stroke"
    - No success

    Now delete the complete symmetrical mechanism of the left side, and try the
    drive by constraints task again. It works.

    Is there a workaround for my task, or am I doing something wrong?

    Hmm,
    I just noticed that there are two entries under the above topic in CF. My
    original file seems to be deleted, the other one is from Martin Shoemaker.
    But the text never has 4129 KB. What to do?

    P.S. I just think to know the cause of the problems. I have two valid mail
    adresses. The former, Walter.Holzwarth@t-online.de is the slower one, and as
    I remember, limited in file size. The other one wh@holzwarth-cad.de is with
    DSL. I'll try a new approach there.

    Sounds like you may need to reset Customer files in your newsreader. I see
    two files from you and they appear to be the same.

    I've just had time to look briefly at your assembly, tried to rework it in a
    manner that works for me in similar assemblies and tried to place a simple
    adaptive part in the assembly in place of the actuator assembly and drive one
    side by driving the strut tube position. Perhaps I'm just not holding my
    mouth right, but I can't get it to work as I think it should.

    The errors that occasionally are reported related to "access invalid address"
    don't inspire a lot confidence that all is working as it should be (adesk
    comments on this?).

    Sorry, but got to go back to work...

    Maybe someone else will be able to offer some help.

    If it's any help, I did get the assy to articulate by copying the actuator and
    making it adaptive as well, then driving both left and right sides via an
    assembly work plane. Can post to CF is you'd like.

    Thanks for your hints, Jeff
    I did so, and it worked so far. I just remember the trick with the dummy
    part, to whose motion all other movements are set in relationship.

    But shouldn't be more comfort in driven constraints? I'd like it very much,
    if I could simulate the movement of my construction on the screen.
    Otherwise, there are still problems in:

    - Simultaneously driving constraints in separate assemblies (There's an
    retractable front gear, too, that is moving at the same time)
    - Simultaneously driving several instances of the same unit (Maybe clamping
    fixtures, or other things)
    - Driving transitional constraints. I here have an example (crankshaft of a
    one-cylindrical R/C four-stroke engine with two cam followers). It can be
    driven by hand, but the automatic motion doesn't run. I just thought to
    delete the second follower for testing, but it doesn't work with only one
    instance, either ..

    But I have to say, I can do much more of these things, than I could do with
    MDT6. On the other hand, I could reorder parts in MDT even from one
    sub-assembly to another, without losing constraints.
