How do I get Inventor to stop scattering my drawing views when they become
precise? R6 will open the drawing up Okay but I can't use R6. I do a lot of
sheet metal and have had this problem since R4 or R5 on three different
machines.
System:
Duel AMD 2000+
Quadro 4 900
2 gig ram
Win 2000 SP2

Check out the views in CF under the same subject in
PDF format. I think this is a file that was done on my previous machine. I
think this may be something that Inventor and that older machine are doing to
the files. It was a Dell precision 220, 512 ram, P3 733, Win 2000 SP2,
GVX1 so it's not like it's a odd situation.

Yes I do.
It seams to open okay in R6, minus the dims losing
there references, but I can't use R6. I have cut my miters in my sheet metal
parts since R2 and now R6 cuts off most the bend on those parts. I can't win. I
am told that SP1 will not fix the bend problem. Now we can use offsets
in the flange tool and then the miter option in the corner tool, but not till
R4, I believe. How do you, or have you, created sheet metal miters?

I will add, I don't have as many problems with my new machine, R5.3. But,
will that change?..............................
You know, I wander if things will ever get better. Do I want to continue
upgrading? It's a double edged sword. You fight the mess of a new version
for new features or you fall to the wayside to hold on to the good release.
It's sick if you ask me.

I have never seen idw's do what your pdfs show. I do a lot of sheet metal
parts and assemblies, but have never seen this. Some of my sheet metal ipts
and idws have been migrated to R4, R5 & R5.3. The only time I have seen
dimensions disconnect has been when a feature was deleted and then
resketched. Have you deleted features (flanges, bends, etc.) and then
reconstructed them?

Nothing has to be done to the IDW. If the drawing is just reopened, it will
do this. Most of the time I can close without saving and it will reload
fine. But, Every time I load a drawing I have to check all the sheets to
make sure the dimensions haven't moved or attached to another edge of a
sheet metal part or the opposite side of a radius were you see the profile
of a bend. I show flat and finished dimensions of all the sheet metal parts
in my drawings. No CAM. I do have parts that I have had to be rebuilt from
scratch because they will not behave. All the lines scatter when the drawing
goes precise.
AutoDesk is aware of the problem. It looks like R6 my deal with the problem
a lot better then previous versions. I will note that I use design assistant
quite a bit. I will copy every thing from IDW down sometimes. I think DA is
very touchy so I never use DA with Inventor open. That seams to cause
problems.
Like I said, my old machine seamed to have had more problems. I have not had
as much of a problem with my new machine. All though Inventor, as you can
tell, still likes to acts up. But for me, I guess it's better then AutoCAD
LT. I think?

I'm not sure about R4. I have also used this method in my templates up
to this point. I have hundreds of models like this. AutoDesk did not take
this into account. Why should I change because AutoDesk can't produce a true
upgrade. At what point would it take less time to convert to SW then upgrade to
the next R(X)? Is this par for the course? I hope not!
