    Bill of Materials Question

I would like to create a bill of materials where I can get the total length of each part used.  In other words I have something called PART A and I might have 6 or 7 of them at different lengths.  I want to get a total length of the material used.  My parts list is showing each one listed as its own part with individual lengths.  How do I convert this?

Can you give all of them the same part number so that they combine on your parts list?

Yes.  They all have the same part number.  So items #3 and #4 would be combined.  So would #13 and #14.  See attached.

In your BOM there is a button called "Part Number Row Merge Settings" if you select that there should be a check box called "Enable Row Merge on Part Number Match". Is that checked?

    Steve,

Can you post a small subset assembly of your data that just contains items #3 and #4 and  #13 and #14?

Or you can send it privately to me if you don't want to post publicly (bob.van.der.donck@autodesk.com)?

    Thanks.

    something to check...

are you using susbstitution on the qty or unit qty columns in your part list?

have a look at the substition tab for them, do they show first value or sum of values in the 'when rows are merged....'

the unit qty one should sum them (or at least i seem to remember that it used to in earlier versions)

I'm not exactly sure.  I will have to wait until I get into work tomorrow to answer this.  in the meantime can you post a screenshot of this?  Thanks.
