Autodesk SQL Server Missing

We have a user having problems (can't) using content center. I have searched this forum and found a thread that indicated that there should be an AUTODESKVAULT SQL server on the machine. This is not present on his machine. How do we get this resolved? Just a note, we have no IT support.

Was ADMS installed locally? You will need to post what version of Inventor you are using.

Is your CC shared over a network, or Standalones?

Sorry, everything was installed locally and we areusing Inventor 2008. I should also say that it was working correctly until we had a network update from Novell to windows i think.

Ma'am,
That's a hell of an update. Have you tried using the install to do a 'repair'. If the AWS or SQL services are unavailable, it might install them. I have no idea what will happen to the libraries, so save them first.

This is just an off the cuff idea. i may be way off base.

This did not work, it did try to reload Vault 2008 and content centers. But, then it could not connect to SQL server. Also, Inventor takes about 5 minutes to start-up. i have a feeling this is all connected and this is the only machine having this type of problem. Any help is appreciated.

I'm going to post this quickly, and I'll check back tomorrow.

START MENU->MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2005->CONFIGURATION TOOLS->SQL SERVER CONFIGURATION MANAGER

under SQL Server 2005 Services, do you see the 'SQL Server (AUTODESKVAULT)' service running?

If you are running a network solution, you would have IIS installed, but since you are not, the SQL server should be running on a layer provided by AWS, the Autodesk Web Server (a local service solution provided by Autodesk for standalong installations).

I want to know what SQL is up to. I am hoping to figure the next step from here. I don't know if it will matter, but it's possible that IIS got installed during the lan changeover. If so, I am not sure how the SQL servers that would have been on AWS will respond.

Let me know

The path you gave looks like it might be missing a step or two from START to MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2005. But, we have also checked and the IIS is not loaded.

Obviously there should be the ALL PROGRAMS button (sorry), but if you don't find MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2005, look for another MS SQL folder in there.
Was that 2008 or 2009?

Okay, we are using Inventor 2008 on Windows XP. I tried to get to the SQL server configuration manager and received the following message: "Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable." There was a little more but, that seemed the most useful. Do I need to get my IT guy involved.

Yes, get your IT person involved and if he cannot figure it
out, contact your reseller implementation expert.

Oh H#$L yes.
I thought you said you didn't have one. I must have misunderstood.
I never back off of a problem until a solution is found, but if you have help on site, it's much better for you.
MUUUUCH easier for IT there, than John here.

Some information that might help you or your IT person resolve the problem
...

1) The "AUTODESKVAULT" SQL Server instance must be running on the machine
(it is a service that should be set to startup automatically). Content
"recipes" are stored in a SQL database.

2) The "Autodesk EDM Server" service also needs to be running and should be
set to startup automatically. This is commonly referred to as the "Autodesk
Web Server" or AWS. It should have been installed with ADMS because IIS was
not present. When IIS is present on the machine during install, it is used
instead - so this won't be here.

3) The "Autodesk Data Management Job Dispatch" service should be running and
should be set to startup automatically. This service wakes up periodically
and asks the server to perform various tasks to keep everything running
smoothly.

When all these are running, first try running the "Autodesk Data Management
Console". If it works then the database is up and running and the system
can talk to it. If it doesn't, look for extra error information in
"\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore\ADMSConsoleLog-*.txt" files.

Next try pointing a web-browser (has to be done on your machine!) at
http://localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx. If this doesn't
work the error shown can help diagnose the problem. Extra error information
is recorded in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore\vlog-*.txt" files.

If all is well to this point, you should be able to login to the data
management server in Inventor.
