    3D Grips Issue

There was an old post regarding 3d grips...but I followed that thread to no resolution. My issue is that there is no 3D grip option in my marking menu. I have the option enabled under Application Tools -> parts and have also made sure the Data Interoperabilty is loaded.

It is a shared computer and a colleague can log in under his profile and he does have the 3D Grips, so it is something user specific but I cannot seems to find the issue.

    Are you following this process...

Click on a Face first and then right click?

3D grips won't appear if you are clicking on a line first.

Did you both try it on the same file?

Does anyone actually use 3D grips?

Sometimes I see stuff that makes me think I'm too set in my ways.

Have any good videos that show usefullness?

Please be sure to check the addin "Drag and Drop Interoperability" is loaded.

This seems to control the availability of the 3D Grips context menu item.

Personally, I never use them, the only arguement that I have ever entertained for them as well as the 3D Grip Snap in the Assembly is for quick concept models or quick changes without having to adjust sketches, dimensions, or parameter tables, but that is just lazy modeling IMOP.

There was a time they were part of the certification exam so I had to consult on them more, but I think they removed the question from the exam now.

I had never used them - so I just worked around the question and found the solution my way.
Then after the exam I thought maybe I should give them a second look to help prepare my students for the exam.

So I figured it all out, did the prep session and forgot about them till now.  (this was a couple of years ago)

Thought maybe there might be something new.

Hugh's response has me thinking about imported bodies into multi-body solids.

They don't work on imported bodies, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.  I think the derive link will kill that idea.

Good point, especially for quick changes in meetings without having to fuss to much with dimension, sketches, features on a model outside of production.  This doesn't seem as useful though as Fusion since that program can work with imported solids and other cad formats and with the update coming soon the ability to direct edit multiple parts in an assembly at the same time.

I took that to mean Autodesk Resellers on sales calls - that is the only time I've seen them actually used.  :smileyvery-happy:
