    2013 Marking Menu shortcomings

The marking menu covers just about every thing I can do... except for one very important thing (well for me anyways).  It does not show me the value of the cell when its a function.  For example, say that I edit an extrusion whose length is (12+36+11.254-.37).  In previous Inventor versions, if I hoovered over this highlighted value, it would show me the resulting value and its name.

Inventor 2013 does not do that.  In order to find the value I have to use the arrow keys and scroll through the box and then add it all up.  It does not even display the parameter name...like d1, d2 or whatever, like all other Inventor versions did.

I have no trouble displaying the value of functions in any of the dialogs. Sometimes I do have to move the mouse away from the dialog then back over it, but other than that it always displays.

This could be another shortcoming of your graphics card, again, the graphics card is not updating quickly enough. This could be due to some background processes running but in all likelihood it is more likely to be the card itself.

Could you give us your system specs please.

I'm wondering if there is a common denominator.

@karthur, does this happen when you only have a single sketch in a single part open and no other programs running, or is it always this way?

    Andy,

In the screen shot that you see, I was working in an assembly.  I had drilled down to the part level and I was in the edit extrusion command. I tried hoovering over it and moving off to the side (like you said). It would show the same thing if I had just the part open.

Any of the commands that have the new heads-up display show this issue.  If I use the old dialog box in the extrusion command, it will show the sum if I hoover over it.

I dont think its a "graphics card" issue.

This is either an oversight or a limitation in the mini-toolbar design.

I logged it as  defect 1462266:  Mini-toolbar does not show the value of formulas

    Thanks for reporting

Kirk, the following reply answers the problem. I was thinking that you also had the same issue in the standard dialog as well, and combined with the drawing issue, that's why I was thinking graphics card.

At least we know the problem now. :smileyhappy:

Thanks Bob and my bad on calling the mini-toolbar the marking menu.  I would edit the subject line in the original post if I could.

    Funny you say that.

I keep mixing the two all the time myself and I think the reason is that neither the marking menu nor the mini toolbar are advertised with that many words in the UI. For the marking menu you can get the termology right by going to the Customize dialog which explains what a marrking menu, overflow menu and radial menu are.

For the mini-toolbar, there is nothing in the UI that helps us to remind that the "blob that cannot be turned off" is actually called "mini-toolbar" :-)
