Re: 2013 Appearances - Bleh. Give me back my 2012 colors!

    Hi IsomaAde,

You are correct about the predicament being compounded by being in 2009. The Realistic style setting had not been instituted at that point in time.

I can do some background checking, but may need to ask you to send the dataset so we can determine what is happening. Is that an option, sending the dataset to Autodesk?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Good evening, Bill

Perhaps it's too late now, 2 months have passed since my last post.

Which Styxml file do you need? What has to be done for creation?

    Thanks for hints

    Walter

Glad that there are more people how want the 2012 colors back. I do not have the time to play arround with colors. I also want to set a yellow red or green etc. Instead of those fancy textures and shiny colors.

If I've got time for that I am going to play with show case.

Because I skipped Inventor 2013, I now come across the same issue in 2014.

Autodesk, please give us a set of simple, distinctive and plain colors like it used to be.

If you set InvCM_ForceConvertToGeneric=1 as a system env variable before migrating colors/materials.xml &/or migrating data in Inventor (or with Task Scheduler), then :

    1. A generic appearance will be created for each color style, instead of using the new categories

    2. It will look like the appearance of the old color style in 2012 shaded view.

    3. The appearance will keep the same display name that the old color style was migrated from.

This is a useful newsgroup thread that you might want to read if you haven’t already done so:

    Inventor 2013 projects over networks

Basically you set the env variable, start Inventor, go to the appearance browser, use the Migrate Inventor Syles command (bottom left corner of Ui), select your legacy location for colors.xml files, specify the name of your new appearance library. This will create a new .adsklib file.

Put that file in your Design Data\Materials folder & then edit your project definition & add that library for appearances.

Obviously not the answer you're looking for but unfortunately that's how it currently is, (or you use the as-shipped appearances).

    Hope this helps,

    Chris
