2013 Appearances - Bleh. Give me back my 2012 colors!

I migrated my 2012 materials into a new library - (what a pain).

I would LIKE TO migrate the colors that are stored in the colors.xml in Design Data to the 2013, but I cannot seem to do so.

To clarify what colors I am after they are the ones like: Red (Chili), Red (Flat), etc...

    How do I do this?

Thanks, but this brings across material styles but not any of the color styles.

I don't want any my customized styles, I want the default Inventor 2012 colors.

Autodesk do you have an answer for me? How do I do this?

tbh m8, a LOT of the default 2012 (and prior) colours are wrong and needed updating anyway - especially if you're wanting to do any rendering.  The majority of reflective materials have an emissive value which means it's giving off light (emitting it) - no matter how much I clean a ball bearing I'm pretty sure it doesn't start giving off light...

(note - not had a chance to upgrade to 2013 yet, so not checked if these incorrect emissive settings are still there).

Don't care if they were "wrong" they were what I had been using for years.

I don't really care about the photorealistic 2012 colors, I want the reds, blues, greens, purples, yellows, whites, etc.

These colours were very important to properly display complex assemblies with contrast between components.

These became the basis of how we display products to customers.

And they (basic colours/materials with any highly reflective setting like polished metals) have been wrong for years - the colours were setup with emissive values before Studio was introduced and tbh they should have been addressed then, but nope.  So I guess they have finally got round to trying to fixing the bugs/issues they had with the colours/materials in the hope to improve them in the long term (and really hope they've removed all the erroneous emissive values)

I also need to have the 2012 color...  The welder in the shop doesn't need a realistic view, he want to see the difference between the different assembly.. !!

    1. If you still have 2012 installed, check the color styles (use Style Editor) and see if the check box for Realistic Appearance is checked. If so, uncheck it. Save changes. Repeat for every color style you want to migrate. Exit 2012,
    2.  Start Inventor 2013 and start a new part (new part or open part required for working with libraries)
    3.  In the QAT click the Appearance Browser, and at the bottom of the browser, click Manage (gear icon) and Migrate Inventor Styles.
    4. Select the 2012 Inventor Material Library as your From library.
    5. Select the 2013 Inventor Material Library as your To library. Or, you can create a custom library and use that as the To target.
    6. Click OK.
    7. In the Project Editor, right-click the Appearances Libraries node and Add Library - navigate to and select the custom library. If you used the 2013 Inventor Material Library as your target this step is unnecessary.
    8.  In a part file (new or opened), click the Appearance Browser (QAT) and select the library (lower left section).  To the right you should see the list of contents. Are your styles there? If so, apply some and see how they look.

Check back in and let me know if this worked for you.

    Hope this helped.

Betreff: 2013 Appearances - Bleh. Give me back my 2012 colors!

06-09-2012 03:33 AM in reply to: RNeudorf

    No success here, Bill.

I've tried to import one of my favorites Gelb(dunkel) = Yellow(dark) from 2012 to 2013. I noticed a date change in InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib, but I didn't find the color.

Instead, most of my colors now seem duplicated in the library.

    What to do now? Thanks

    Walter

    Hello Bill

I'm having this rather frustrating problem as well. However my predicament is compounded by coming from 2009 to 2013. There does not appear to be the check box that you are referring to in 2009. I am now frustratingly in possession of a stainless steel framework assembly made up of two differing colours (colors) of stainless steel. Some parts derived from 2009 parts are the colour I want yet others are not. I don't care what colour (color) they are just as long as they are the same. How do I fix this issue.

    Many Thanks

    Ade
