I have a pattern on the side of a cylinder that I can extrude all the way though but I need to be able to rotate it once every 15 inches. Is that possible in inventor while extruding? If so I could use some guidance.

If I understand your request, the answer is YES. You can create a pattern of features along a helical path on a cylinder. I have attached a part file that contains a cylindrical tube with a pattern of holes near one end. Drag the End Of Part marker down to activate the other features. I created a 3D sketch with a helical curve with the appropriate rate of twist (30 deg/15 inches) and created a rectangular pattern along the curve.
It is not intuitively obvious that you can create a pattern along a path that is not a straight line but you can. I did not uncover that ability, but when someone pointed it out, I started using it. You may need to expand the pattern dialog box and play with the extra options to get the results you need.
I like to use parameters in this type of construction because it makes it easier to adjust the patterns. You can adjust the parameters on this file to change the pattern.
I hope that helps. If I misunderstood what you need, ask again.
