re-size a block locally without losing global definition

hi There
it would be great To be able To re-size a block locally (individually) without losing its global definition
for example, i was Thinking specifically about Trees or landscape objects in general
if you could 'select' an individual Tree Then using The 'arrow' keys make it grow interactively To fine Tune The Image (or + and - maybe)
This would 'grow' around The 'insertion' point (most likely its Trunk)
