    Layers within Blocks

    The one thing that drives me absolutely nuts about Impression is the fact that blocks don't work the same way they do (and should in my opinion) in AutoCAD.

    Why does impression see the layers within a block differently then those layers outside the block? In my AutoCAD dwg I have it set up so that all object properties are by layer. So for instance I have a block of a window elevation that is drawn on multiple layers within the block, if I change the properties of that layer outside of the block it changes that layers properties within the block.

    Not so in Impression. Once I import my drawing every layer in every block (I have roughly 20 different window blocks) is its own individual layer even though they all have the same name, since they are technically the same layer back in AutoCAD. So now when I apply a style to that layer, nothing happens within the blocks. I have to edit each of them individually. This takes a lot of time.

    This is all fine as long as I dont' change the geometry of any of those blocks in AutoCAD. Once I do that, I have to reimport my geometry and start all over applying my styles to each individual block.

    The work around seems to be to explode all blocks before importing into impression. Which of course won't work if any of those blocks are xclipped. Which is exactly the case for me.

    For a program that is supposed to save me time, it's actually causing me to waste a lot of time with blocks. This one issue keeps me from
    using Impression.

    So my wish is for blocks and the layers within them to work the same way they do in AutoCAD. Please!

    Totally agree with this. I've just started to use Impression and I'm very surprised that this is the case. I'm disappointed to see there is no work around and I'm going to have to create duplicates of every drawing - one with exploded blocks plus the original with blocks in tact for future editing.
