    New to GIS

I have limited experience with ArcView and I've been a user of AutoCAD for the past six years. I currently work for a medium sized Land Planning/Landscape Architecture firm that is interested in utilizing GIS. I've reviewed what Autodesk has to offer and I'm considering using Autodesk's GIS capabilities in our office. Our office is only interested in using GIS for aerial image and vector mapping. We'd like to be able to convert back and forth from AutoCAD. Does Autodesk offer a package that can accommodate our limited needs?

In addition our current versions of AutoCAD 2004, what software/hardware will we need in order to get started? Will it be as simple as adding a stand alone hard drive to our surer to store the data?

I'd appreciate any advice or pearls of wisdom.

Autodesk® Raster Design will allow you to edit, modify, analyze, and enhance raster data so you can integrate maps, scanned documents, and paper drawings, satellite imagery, and aerial photos into your work. Depending on your requirements, you can run this with AutoCAD or with Autodesk MAP.

Our Web site will provide you with the system requirements for all of our products. Check this site to see if your current hardware will support the products that you need.

    Yes!
Autodesk have many programs for gis capabilities
    1. AutoCad Map series will allow you to convert DWG into Spacial Data File, ArcView coverage .SHP & ArcInfo etc.

    2. Autodesk LandDevelopment is for analyze surveying data and will allow you to used in a GIS.

Then after that you can built a GIS Web Server with Autodesk MapGuide were you can show & share all your GIS data.
