How to create MapGuide SDF files from GIS Design Server Data with FEAT_NUM ?

    Hello,

We are using Autodesk GIS Design Server and have an Autodesk Map application
    on top.

We use the Autodesk Map application to draw the features that are in the
Design Server database and we save a .DWG file from that. We now would like
to create MapGuide SDF files from this data - we can do that using either
the Menu/Map/Export to Autodesk MapGuide..., or we can use SDFLoader.

The problem is: we need to put Design Server´s FEAT_NUM into the key column
of the SDF file, but we don´t know how to do that.

    Has anyone ever done this?

    Thanks,

    Fabio

    Hello Fabio,

I am unable to come up with a direct answer to show you how to be able to
export the contents in a DWG file directly into a SDF using FEAT_NUM from
the G_MASTER table as the key. However, the following information from the
Release Notes of the Autodesk GIS Design Server Provider for Autodesk
    MapGuide may interest you:

"The Extension enables Autodesk MapGuide to access spatial and attribute
data directly from a GIS Design Server database through the SDP (spatial
data provider) architecture. This eliminates the requirement of converting
the Autodesk GIS Design Server data to SDF (spatial data file) format before
    viewing with Autodesk MapGuide".

    Hello Fabio,
with the current product there is no way to create this sdf keys
automatically. The sdf files can use the key from Maps internal object data
or from external database links. This is the same if you export directly from
Map or use the sdfloader. The DesignServer Extension does not create this
additional links in Map, but keeps the ones to the oracle database.
I think the best approach would be to create a routine where the Extension
renders features in Map and fills up an object data table at the same time
including the FEAT_NUM value of the objects.

    Thanks a lot!

But I wonder... In Autodesk Map 5 WITH the "Extension for Design Server"
installed, you can open the Properties window for a given object and see a
lot of Design Server´s information, like:
    Feature Number
    Network
    Layer
    Version
    Feature Code
This information is somehow stored into the DWG, because if I save a DWG
file and open in Autodesk Map WITHOUT creating a connection to the server,
I´m still able to see these "Design Server Properties".

So I wonder: there is no way of reading this info, either with SDF Loader,
or with Map "Export to MapGuide" menu entry?

It would be a lot better for me... I would prefer NOT working with MapGuide
Data Extension for Design Server, if possible. For performance reasons, I
would prefer working with SDF layers....

Of course, if everything else fails, I can use SDF Toolkit, and create a
program that reads the database directly and generates the SDF files... but
I really would prefer if there were a faster and cheaper way of doing that.

    I´m open to any suggestions...

    Hello Fabio,
I gave this a test and can reproduce it as you say. The properties are
displayed in Autocad but you cannot access them from the properties display
of the sdf export dialog. The export does only take the standard object
properties of Autocad. When you save the dwg the sdfloader will only
    recognize unknown proxy objects.

I think there are mainly two possibilities. Either create the objects via
the Sdf Toolkit, or write some application in Map that will query the key
from DesignServer and store it in an Object Data Table. The second
    possibility looks easier to me.
