With the tools that FMystems provides, you do use a support path and an integrated menu/toolbar. It then creates a bi-directional link from the drawing to the database through the use of polylines and tagged rooms. The Square Footage of rooms is calculated and populates the FMpace database.
You do NOT lose the ability to edit the drawing later. You can change anything about the drawing. A useful Drawing Check feature allows the user to ensure data integrity.
