Currently, if I make a new topic, the view count will increase every time I view my own post.  Doesn't that defeat the purpose?  I thought the idea was to show the post creator how much "attention" a post is getting.  If that's true, the thread creator is likely only interested in the view count of other people.

Currently it only tracks views of the thread. You can however cut down on adding to the view count when checking for replies by "subscribing" to the post.

There is also a setting under My Settings at the top of the page that will automatically subscribe you to your posts.

This will send you a notfication email letting you know that someone replied to the thread.

You can now even reply from that mail by clicking the Reply button in the lower left hand side of the email

True, and I have that setting applied.  However when I want to reread my post to make sure it was specific enough, or to edit my post, I'll have to go to the actual post, thus increasing the view count.

Also, for those of us that get way too many emails in a day, subscribing by email just adds to email clutter. The most convenient way to see the whole conversation of a topic is to read the post on the forum website.

Would it be possible to add a setting (like you have for auto-subscribe) to make it filter views of the OP?

At the moment a setting such as this is not available within the software. But we do keep track of such requests for possible future enhancements
