I updated the list on Page 7 again. This thing is getting massive and I am incredibly appreciative to every user who has offered any input whatsoever. To be honest - totally blown away. :smileyvery-happy:

    Thank you!

Charles, if you click the number of unread posts, it'll jump you to the first unread post. I discovered that recently.

All these Revit super users here together on this long

thread and something historic is developing. I'm mostly

going to be reading over all these posts and getting to

know everyone and understand their thinking and their

ideas. For me it means I'll be motivated to learn a lot

more about BIM and Revit. I need this kind of motivation

because right now I'm not all the BIM/Revit expert I can

    be.

Thanks Charles, mine were already set to 100 and 50, so I guess my wish is to have the posts per topic limit increased to 100 or removed altogether.

I prefer long lines. They mean code displays properly, and that a given paragraph takes up less vertical space, meaning I need to do less scrolling.

I would like to have the ability to use the full width of the window, rather than putting up with huge swathes of grey space either side of the content.

Why couldn't the reply button and stuff at the bottom be

put to the side to take up less vertical space instead

of text? Not sure what reading code is because I only

know how to read words. What else is new?

vBulletin is far more popular than a forum like this because that's

more for ameteurs than technical professionals like this one.

Autodesk knows that very well and that's why we have this.

There are plenty of ways to make a forum like this more

intriguing, but you wouldn't want to turn it into a carnaval.

As for altering the basic structure of a forum, that's probably

in the program's .exe and you won't do that. Like you might

not be able to move the reply button. But I'm sure there is

already a setting for the column width- it's just that nobody

ever set it.  Look at the text column width after you type in a

google search term, I'm sure Google knows something about

text formatting. Infact look at any book and see if the text runs

all the way from one side of the page to the other, it don't.

Better to varify logic than cling to a notion.

The best option would most likely be to provide each user with a "Narrow Paragraph Style" (or a more appropriate name) option under My Settings, and to leave the buttons where they are.

Also, when users embed large images in a post (i.e. screenshot w/dual monitors), the size is reduced to fit within the margins of the post often making it impossible to make out small details. In these cases, I navigate to that user's profile page and to his image archive for a full-size image. Can clicking on an embedded image link to the full-size image as found in this archive?

    User Engagement Idea:

New users could receive a message for the first time they get a Kudos or have authored a Solution, which would say congratulations and then explain briefly what they mean. The user will get up to two additional "Good Job!" messages at 10 and 50 unless the user opted to disable them, which would be through a "Do Not Show Me This Again" option included with each of these messages. Please comment...

    CADastrophe,

I like the idea on the kudos and solutions. I've been brainstorming on how we might be able to improve the initial messages users receive since right now, it's kind of feeling like a missed opportunity. :smileyfrustrated:

What type of message would you use - pop-up? PM? E-mail?

    Thanks!

That message would not be important enough to justify bothering users through their email, and private messages often go unnoticed, especially by new users. Pop-ups would be the way to go as long as they are MINIMAL and can be suppressed. On that note, I would like to add that it needs to be slightly more apparent (visually) when you get a Private Message - That would be a great time and place for the orange color!

And make the "New" and "Edited" text next to the subject header different colors!
